Dear all,
I know many of you are raring to go. I know it seems like the revolution is coming towards to you in an auto with a loud horn so why are we hanging around waiting?
We are not. We are just recruiting volunteers so when the next big push comes along, we will be slightly less crazy. Also, having done so well the first time round, we can't really fall on our face so quickly.
I truly believe part of what we are achieving here is staking a claim for our shared culture. Not the fake, monolith, imaginary culture that the right-wing groups insist we have, but the real stuff. It is messy, complicated, wonderful. Each of us define Indian culture differently. No one is wrong, no one is more right. But why slug it out when we can have some fun? Let us go out and win back Indian culture, one chaddi at a time.
It is incredibly important for us to reclaim our culture from the mobs and the manipulators. Today I heard a politican speak at the opening of the NGMA in Bangalore. At the opening of a museum for modern art, he accused artists of disrespecting Indian tradition. When artists tried to argue with him, he had the police escort them out. What next?
So reclaim your culture. Show the world how you live and why your way of life too is Indian culture.
So here is the idea. We each make a little video of ourselves. We make a video of ourselves doing something we love, something we think is definitely a part of Indian culture (and let no one dare disagree!). Speak into the camera. Say "This is Indian culture." Imagine the possibilities, you, your best friend, your grandmother, your 7-year-old nephew, your grumpy boss... each doing what you think is part of you, part of Indian culture.
The video collection (which we can host on a youtue channel) will be like the national integration ads some of us grew up watching, the ones made by Lok Seva Samiti. Except this will be wilder, funnier,less politically correct and most importantly, made by the LOK!
I will put up some suggestions soon. Meanwhile find youself a camera! Films can't be longer than a minute so get your act together and practice your fine, ringing, speaking voice.
All together now: This is Indian culture!
GUIDELINES!
1. Pick something you like to do and you think is a part of Indian culture.
2. Steal/borrow a video camera to make a one minute film.
3. Speak into the camera. Say, "This is Indian culture" in the language you are most comfortable in.
4. DO NOT UPLOAD YOUR FILM YOURSELF on youtube.
5. Send the file to freelancehabba@gmail.com
6. Use any of the following file types .wma, .mp4. (We will smile a lot if you send us .mp4) or .dat or.avi. Uploaded files and edited files are difficult to edit because of loss of quality. Raw files are great.

I think these people should concentrate on serious issues like poverty, electric supply and cleaning and maintaining roads than petty issues
ReplyDeleteWork from home
fascinating suggestion. Don't you get it? THESE people are actually you and us! How about not trying to segregate people into groups for once and learning from history! Act together. Put that lovely mob mentality to use, man!
ReplyDeleteI think more important than money, electric supply and good roads is to live with harmony and a feeling of security. This is not a petty issue.
Thank god, we don't have a person like Muthlik in Delhi. I have never heard that girls are being assaulted inside pubs just because they are drinking alcohol.
ReplyDeleteBabajaba! I totally agree with you. You are absolutely right. These people are us. I should not have fallen into the us/them rhetoric. Apologies!

ReplyDeleteBugsy, my love,why not?
ReplyDelete@Nisha susan,
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea,better than your chaddy one.
and do show all your faces to the public including bugsy's
Wrt the statement on the artists and everything else that is not a part of Indian culture, democracy was a wholly borrowed idea. I wonder if that's what they'll target next. (not that they haven't already).
ReplyDeleteI like bugsy's workaround. :)
i love the way this campaign is going! its really heartening to know that we are not gonna stop at just sending pink chaddis to the SRS. The videos idea is awsome too!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work and know that you always have the support of hundreds and thousands of people, good cultured and educated people, whatever you do.
http://everyopinioncounts-as.blogspot.com/2009/02/braveheart.html
Dear born hindu , let me tell you that if in this group there are the women who can offer you a pink chaddi there are the men like me who can beat you everywhere if you come one by one . Believe me we will teach you a lesson one day and as far as nisha ji is concerned i think her decision of sending you PINKCHADDIS is what made you taken aback . you are not able to digest your insult now you and call everywhere that you are hindu haahhaha let me tell you tht i am also hindu hahahah
ReplyDeleteWill you be sending Chaddis to Moslem clerics now? Please do. Dare to show that you are not afraid of bombs. Perhaps, you are?
ReplyDeleteThis is a Christian campaign against Hindu traditions?
ReplyDelete@sushil,
ReplyDeletewanna try it out ?
You want to beat me ?
hey guys please come and post your views
ReplyDeletehttp://youthclubindia.blogspot.com/
be a member of this club
Born hindu dont meddle with me or i will convert you into born muslim from born hindu and you will complain to mr muthalik your illegal father about i converted your religion lol
ReplyDelete@Sushil,
ReplyDeletei dont believe in threatening. i DO THINGS.
i know you dont have balls, and i fight only MEN.
@Sushil,
ReplyDeleteDo you want to talk about convertion ?
Come out in public,and talk this out if you are born to one father.
I will summarise my feelings for you in one word -MORON-
Au revoir..
lol born to one father. whats with the psuedo-testosteroneish atmosphere here?
ReplyDeleteCan someone ban the trolls?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, to Nisha and the organizers of this wonderful campaign - well done! I am so proud of all of you for starting this deliciously irreverent campaign against the radical fringe. Keep up the good work, you wonderful people!
(I posted this once before ans posting this again as I did not get any reply to some of my queries)
ReplyDeleteWhy did you not protest against the media people who were party to the action?
They were present there, shot from the best angle the whole incident. But if they knew that this would happen why did they not inform the police or why did they not stop the goons.
You are looking for a next project, why not highlight the rot in the media.
As far as the whole culture thing is concerned aren't we better off reading from authentic books on Indian culture rather than looking at some guys/gals potificating on the youtube. Books like - "History and Culture of people of the Indian People" by R C Majumdar (11 volumes) deals with India, its people culture from 600BC to 1947.
History of Dharmashastras - by Bharat Ratna Dr. P V Kane (5 Volumes) dealing with civil life (including all the liberties rights and duties provided to people) judicial system etc in the ancient and medieval India.
people these days are so intolerant.....anything and everything western is against their culture. india is supposedly the largest democracy....well sure shows....and such a cultured group of people beating up women.....speaks highly about their ooh so sacred culture. Seems pretty obvious why people adopt other cultures. I dont see how these people are any different from those religious terrorist who want the whole world to follow islam. its only the scale of events that are different there they blow people up...here they beat people up...sheesh pathetic.
ReplyDeleteAs a U.S. sovereign male who also has a daughter it is good to know woman in India are organizing for a better India, a better world.
ReplyDeleteAmen - By Sister Jesme
ReplyDeleteNarrating how deeply disappointed and disillusioned she is after choosing the religious vocation on her own volition at a very young age, Jesme exposes the power struggles in the 'dark confines' of convents she had lived for about 30 years and in corridors of church administration.

ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletetime to remove chaddi, time to show secularism :]
ReplyDelete@shankar and that is relevent how? clearly u dont get the issue.
ReplyDeleteThis is a brilliant idea. As I am Gori girl, this is not my fight per se, but I am cheerleading for all my Indian friends. It is the least I can do for the girls who have bought me cocktails and nibbles at Mumbai pubs after hard days running their businesses and NGOs. I think Helen says it best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VMonBMUR6w
ReplyDeleteYour campaign is enlightening and inspired.
ReplyDeleteI read about it in the Guardian newspaper here in the UK and salute your bravery and sense of shared humanity.
What can people outside India do to support you?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBugsy,
ReplyDelete"So, we @ pink chaddi don't care who is labeled as what religion here."
Does this mean that you are going to send some pink chaddis to some convent in Kerala now. Please post the address of the convent on the site.
no one has stopped you shankar... give us the address of the church and I atleast shall send one to them too,.... however seems like your motives are to upstage one religion for the other...thats not what this about...
ReplyDeleteHello ladies and gents,
ReplyDeleteCan we all calm down a little? Where are those aforementioned videos? Why are you not zooming to your little cameras and sending them off? Go forth and express yourself. I am dying to see them. So get offline and enjoy your weekend. :)
Nisha
As a working journalist (since 1983) and newspaper editor as well as a teacher of print journalism (since 1987) in Pune, I am thrilled that the Pink Chaddi campaign has caught the imagination of thousands of Indians (and citizens abroad) to speak out and stand up against the bullies in Mangalore and elsewhere (yes, here in Pune too).
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you are taking the campaign forward by asking the lok, janata about their individual ways of expressing and celebrating Indian culture. I am not comfortable with making a one-minute film, so I shall write something.
Judging by the various comments on this blog, I am glad that maybe some supporters of the hooligans, if not the hooligans themselves, are reading the Pink Chaddi blog. Otherwise, people with the same thinking talk to each other and we have the good trying to convert the good. Now we have a fair chance that some misguided elements reading different comments may think again about their vulgar ways.
Democracy and the open mind are well and alive on the pink chaddi blog. Keep it up.
Let us protect Indian culture from the swaymsevaks and rakshaks who beat up the bharatiya nari to protect bharatiya sanskriti, just like Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency during 1975-77 to save Indian democracy or US presidents invaded Vietnam and Iraq to save freedom.

ReplyDeleteIt is an article in our national daily.
Somebody get addresses of the convents where those priests are now, send them some chaddies.
@Joe pinto,
ReplyDeleteWhere did "Swayamsevaks" come in to picture?
Do you understand what "swayamsevak" mean?
If you are a journalist, i know now, why our media is so biased.
@Bugsy
ReplyDelete"So, we @ pink chaddi don't care who is labeled as what religion here.
We will continue to campaign in peace and unity. "
Come on now: Collect more pink chaddies, will get you addresses and human rights violations in other religions , within India.
Do you have the guts,to send chaddies to them ?
Girl, you can shoot off your mouth,only where you feel your rrr..are safe.
@Bugsy
ReplyDelete"Sounds a lot like the devadasi system we follow in our Hindu religion, isnt it?"
"Even reminds me of the misuse of widows on the ghats of our Hindu rivers"
You knew this from very beginning,that such things are happening in India.Did you ever try anything positive towards their upliftment?
I can show you what "swayamsevaks" have done towards their upliftment and during national crisis.
Girls,who wont dirty their hands in helping a woman fallen on street are out here now,shouting to save pubgoing girls and their alchoholism.
what an irony.
@Jenzarina,
ReplyDeleteIf you are not an Indian:
Please understand there are more serious social issues in India than "Booze for woman"
You want to help us in uplift of downtrodden?
Welcome to you. But otherwise,it is better off for you to save your country than ours.
@Sudhir,
ReplyDeleteDont waste your energy.
they wont know a single title that you mentioned :-)
Guys are fed with Jeffrey archer and stuff, Forget indian Lit.
if you pass by again, let know your gtalk id.
@All chaddies
ReplyDeleteLook what you people have made a nationalist organization look like,
http://ipsnews.net/wap/news.asp?idnews=45757
Did any of you ever get out of your house and clean a road,build one or ever ever help help crisis victims during train accidents and earth quakes?
Am sure many of you will hold your pants,when you see blood on an accident victim or faint.
This is what, an organization gets for nationalist ideology, in INDIA.
while its tough to point at anything as our culture, as it was always open-ended. we ar enver asked to visit temple on sundays or fridays like other religions, nor are we baptized, its just a way of life, our cultures too were evilved differently at differently, the present mutalik or any 'sena' culture can call themselves 'Consortium of temple going loose and backward Talibanis (as their culture resembles more of taliban than anything Indian
ReplyDelete@Born Hindu
ReplyDeleteDid the SRS ever get out of their house and clean a road, build one or ever ever help help crisis victims during train accidents and earth quakes? Did the SRS ever train their men to go and fight in Kashmir?
You know why. Because you don't have the balls to ever do something more than come out in groups and assault weak and defenseless people. Well, you are not enough potent enough to find a woman in your life and you mama has to do it for you - so there's nothing much more I can say here.
She will never send anything to christian or muslims. i.e Nisha susan is half musilm and half christian.. Tehalka is funded by Vatican church and UAE/DUBAI.
ReplyDeleteThe media recently reported on the revelations of Sr. Jesme of Kerala about her abused life as a nun in Kerala, in her ‘Amen- An Autobiography of a Nun’. Kerala also has the recent stories of Sr. Abhaya, murdered in a nunnery by two priests and a nun, and of Sr. Anupa Mary who hanged herself because she was unable to resist lesbian exploitation by the Sister Superior. These cases are perhaps, more serious than pub brawls. These victims did not drink in public with Moslem boys. They had only become nuns to lead pure lives.
ReplyDeleteI request our women to rise against these incidents also. Nisha Susan, herself a Catholic, should again lead in sending Chaddis to the Pope and Kerala Bishops.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteYour argument sound familiar to me. Oh I remember it is in the same lines as Bush used to speak "Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists". For your clarification,if we are not with you it does not mean that we are with the Ram Sena. "Middle Path" Does it ring some bells.
Bugsy,
I don't think anybody claimed that Hinduism is perfect(and so are other religions I presume, I may be wrong). Atleast as far as I know there are lot of evils in it. The best part is that we have accepted the evils and have enacted laws to eradicate these from the society. Segregation on the basis of caste is illegal in constitution, Devdasi is punishable under law.
But problem arises when people who claim to be at the forefront of the social revolution or moral correctness highlight the happening of one religion but gleefully turn blind eye to all others. (so it appears to backwards like me). So is it not your responsibility to show that I am utterly wrong.
Nisha,
I see some noises (including me) accusing you of "secularism" (Indian brand). Why not dispel the doubts by showing that you are different from others who swear by secularism? Why not inform the 43000+ supporters of the campaign to work against ills of the Indian society? and as bugsy says
"We will continue to campaign in peace and unity.
National integration! ahoy!"
@Anindya
ReplyDeleteI have cleaned roads on ,helped in constructing roads in backward areas,Worked on blood donation camps,tried to serve my country and my people where ever it is required(physically and with my average IQ)
Train accidents yes, and even during landslides or floods. Learn more about sangh.
Talking about my "balls"(U started it)
brother, i dont have to show it to you and i dont need any media coverage or publicity.
Talking about whether Sree Ram Sena did cleaning roads and stuff. I was talking about RSS, not SRS,your intelligent fellow campaigners had made all saffron sound like eve teasing parties.
and talking about potency, i think you are the first impotent that i am answering.
and bro: i repeat i am against abuse or violence towards any woman. and i did not support SRS for what they did.
Boy,,,regarding my mama finding girl for me .
I prefer to go by tradition,and my mama will find her for me.
I dont prefer "intoxicated woman in pubs " like you.
if i knew you personally, could have given u a demonstration of my capabilities.unfortunately
you dont have a profile even.
Chal, enjoy, anyways you will find lots of chaddies in here.
Sajan,

@Bugsy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. This is the first reply to my comments on this blog. Anyway that aside
"1) Why do you see "Hindu" teetotalers like me vehemently support this campaign?"
- I don't want to say anything on this as in India you are free to support anything. Your wish.
"A Hindu Taliban is no better."
- By using such connotations you are doing a great damage to the country. One instance of pub attack (don't consider this as I am belittling the incident) and you start shouting hindu taliban. Do you have any idea what taliban is and why it is what it is? Taliban came into being because of the silent approval of the majority with an idealogical backing. What happened in Mangalore was instance of hooliganism by people hungry for publicity. If as per our beloved Renuka Aunty's claim Mangalore was indeed Talibanised then you would have never seen the beautiful car festival in Mangalore which took place on February 2nd. (It did not even get a passing reference in the media ) During the festivals men women and children roam around freely in the streets around the temple till 4 am in the the morning next day. There is a holi like celebration in which without gender bias people participate. All this happened just <3kms from the place where pub incident happened.
"imho, women getting beaten in a pub, or sisters exploited in a church,
or girls prevented from going to school, etc, are not religious issues.
They are gender issues."
-First you talk about hindu taliban. then you blame the gender bias. What is it really?
"You ask again "Why keep religion out?""
- I never asked that question.
"There is no singular definition of an Indian woman or Indian culture.
The Indian woman is as varied as India itself
- afterall she belongs to the melting pot of cultures.
I hate these pre-conceived notions of "Bharathiya Naari".
Again - nothing to do with religion."
- How is this relevant here. I have never stereotyped any female. Everyone deserves equal respect. (period)
"Positive actions like the above can be done ignoring the existence of religion.
In fact, these can be done ONLY if you ignore the existence of religion."
- My wish is also same here. But I did not see this even in case of this pink chaddi group. When you start a movement (or claim so) you express your opinion on all related matters. But when you selectively turn blind or selectively turn hyperactive it raises suspicions. I want a true secular India and not a "secular" India. I beg you and your leadership to prove me wrong. I would be very happy.
Because of secularist thoughts which say
ReplyDeletemajority never get equal rights, and any organization with a name "Hindu" or with Hindu majority should be called "Fascist",
You guys get to do or say what ever you wish hurting the sentiments of many.
Hypocrasy at its best..Wonderful
Hi.
ReplyDeleteThere is an article on the Pink Chaddi campaign on the English Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Chaddi_Campaign and it really needs an image.
Can you get the person who created your logo to upload it? They will have to sign a form saying that
a) they created it, and
b) they are donating it (effectively) to the Wikipedia project.

ReplyDeleteshout out from me and other hoes here...
@All chaddies
ReplyDeleteYour friends seem to have come from far away.
Mr. or Miss Racheal, welcome. your kind are eagerly awaited by this free loose woman
The original Facebook group has been removed just as a defamation suit has been filed. Is this a backdown? Please please fight Ram Sena in court. These people are now trying to use the power of judiciary to suppress democratic protest.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if one could rap the knuckles of any man who touched you, right there. But that's dangerous.
ReplyDeleteInstead, if we use the media to run a "TouchMeNot" campaign - nobody can target individual women. The question is, will the big crook in the editor's office realise his social responsibility?
Or will he wait till a lady from his own family is physically harassed or "touched for fun"?
The question is which editor is willing to support this cause.
They already spoil the minds of young males with the soft porn supplements - if you have caught with the news - the latest research says that photos or videos of scantily clothed women make men think of them as objects rather than people with a heart and a mind.
Google search for the research that shows men think of scantily clad women as sex objects
I fully well know that these women are exploited into doing this and I also know how wonderfully Bollywood treats aspiring lady actresses. But that is another story.
My point is that newspapers and TV channels make heavy profits out of portraying women as sex objects.
Let me make one thing clear - men are not going away from this planet any time soon. So, unlike the SRS mentality of "kill the odd one" or "kill the wrong one", women need to *transform* the wrong one into a better person.
By his own realisation of his shameful acts.
This will be achieved when women demand that they be looked upon as people and simultaneously the means of looking upon women as sex objects are denied to impressionable minds.
Rather than a campaign against the symptoms, we need a broader campaign against the source - the dirty money funding the soft porn that newspapers use.
The BJP/RSS/VHP have NEVER attacked Times Of India, The Indian Express, HT, Mumbai Mirror, Midday, etc.
WHY?
It is not very difficult to imagine a society where the newspapers clearly state that letching, eve-teasing, touching, pushing etc are shameful and will be booed upon immediately.
State that women are mothers to someone, sisters to someone and friends to someone and that since they are that way, they need to be treated that way.
The Hindu for example, as a newspaper, has good articles in these matters in kids' supplements.
The TOI on the other hand busies itself with how many times the French have sex in a week.
Now, which is better use of ink and paper in a society like ours where rape or its threat is a means of silencing a woman very effectively?
Why does not the moral police attack and destroy these dirty filthy newspaper supplements?
Modi is the Iron man, right?
Advani is the Iron man, right?
Muthalik is the clean leader, right?
Whether or not BJP win any elections, they can and could have stopped this shit from being printed daily.
why then have they not done so?
This shows that these are only gimmicks for popularity.
To all of you real cultured Kannadigas, let us see you unite and call for a ban on semi-nudity in the print and broadcast media.
Can you defend our culture in that way - which is arguably much more effective?
Come on, let us see you doing this one thing first.
I think it is the media that can create a really positive change in short time, but I am inclined to believe that the editors are probably involved in many minor and major crimes on women they meet.
If we somehow succeed in spreading a Touch-me-not awareness among young men and women, a lot of the crime will be avoided.
Offices should pick up Touch-me-not stickers and badges and distribute to all employees. This order must come from the CEO, not a lesser person.
"DONT TOUCH WOMEN"
Or a solemn promise on Youtube:
"I, Ramkumar Shyamcharan Das, promise that I will never touch a woman if it is against her wish. I will not stare at a woman in a dirty way. This is my vow to protect the dignity of mothers, sisters and daughters in India."
If you are a mother, make your family take the oath.
If you are a sister, make your brother take the oath.
If you are a daughter, make your father take the oath.
If you are in love, make your boyfriend take the oath.
Some women will get into really dirty quarrels with members of their family or spouses. This might break up some marriages too.
So maybe more experienced people should use their knowledge of human relations to tune the method to prevent such undesirable incidents.
But overall, it is better than the violence that women suffer silently.
Instead of kicking out the ladies from Pub, why these moral police concentrate on people spitting on the road, those who are making the public places dirty or the politicians or police who are taking bribes? These moral police is trying to fool people in the name of Ram.
ReplyDeleteWhy has the facebook group name changed? I received this update just a few seconds ago.
ReplyDeleteKishore Singh changed the name of the group "A Consortium of Pub-Going, Loose and Forward Women" to "A Consortium of Pro-Abortion, Baby Killing Feminist Whores & Manginas".
Is this a joke or has someone hacked into the account?
I was about to post about the same thing.
ReplyDeleteif someone has hacked into the account, maybe we need some sort of arrangement that can screen the members.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt does appear that the group has been hacked or stolen. Hopefully, the account was hacked by virtual means only and that no admins computer was stolen by means of violence or physical harm to the admin!!! Please let us know if you can.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Indian cousin-sisters,
ReplyDeleteI was so inspired by news of your campaign that I wrote this article in support of it. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for the cause of loose and forward women.

ReplyDeleteBugsy,
ReplyDeleteIf it is gender bias as you say then why give names as "Hindu taliban". Fight it just as gender bias.
I never denied gender bias in India.
Please read some books about Taliban to see what they are and why they are. Muthalik and co are just local goons who could be handled local police or just ignoring their histrionics will do the trick.
Only naive will look at Muthalik and start jumping Taliban Taliban...
@Sudhir
ReplyDeleteNow dont expect many answers in this blog coz they have not decided who will attend the court hearing for defamation suit.
They can just jump up and down saying "TALIBAN TALIBAN " on every child wearing saffron knicker and that too online.
God bless these chaddies.
@Jatrik
ReplyDeletei too agree with you
Pleeeeeeeeeeeease fight SRS in court.
let them not suppress your fight against democrasy and pub freedom.

Hypocrats.
ReplyDeleteMight make a nice theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap8FY5OuC90
ReplyDeleteLets declare January 24th as "The Consortium of Pubgoing, Loose and Free Women". Thats the day when Mangalore Pub attack took place.
ReplyDeleteLets use the same day to represent our collective will, cultural understanding and resilience against the moral policing brigade and religious fundamentalist groups.
Let Culture not be the amount of skin we expose/cover.
Let Culture be a quality of our Heart!

ReplyDeleteBugsy @ 46
ReplyDeleteWalking on the road or breathing is our fundamental right. The constitution of India talks about these 2 even before it talks about anything else. This part is called preamble of the constitution. Let me reproduce it here. Liberty includes everything walking on road , breathing and surprisingly drinking as well.
"WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;
and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.
Purpose of Having a Preamble:
The Preamble to our Constitution serves two purposes: -
A) It indicates the source from which the Constitution derives its authority;
B) It also states the objects, which the Constitution seeks to establish and promote.
The Preamble seeks to establish what Mahatma Gandhi described as The India of my Dreams, "…an India in which the poorest shall feel that it is their country in whose making they have an effective voice; …an India in which all communities shall leave I perfect harmony. There can be no room in such an India for the curse of untouchability or the curse of Intoxicating drinks and drugs. Woman will enjoy as the same rights as man." "
But then when specifically when the topic of intoxicating drink comes we have the article 47 which states that it is the responsibility of the government to protect its citizens against alcoholism.
Even supreme court of India also says so
http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle-old/435/indiacourt.shtml
Maybe our dearest minister for women and child development did not know about this supreme court statement.
Here's one more fact about our dearest minister. In 1993 as a candidate of TDP she fought an assembly bi-election against former Andhra chief Minister Vijaybhasker Reddy on the slogan of TOTAL PROHIBITION.
Maybe somehow alcohol has become drink now.
Sorry for the typo
ReplyDeleteMaybe somehow alcohol has become HEALTH drink now

ReplyDeletei don't understand why are people NOT able to understand the purpose of this blog.. none of us are encouraging drinking among women..THE POINT IS TO HAVE THE FREEDOM to do what we want. Why aren't the men beaten up for going to dance bars?? or for that matter going to pubs? why are the women always targeted?
ReplyDeleteIn the age where women are becoming Presidents and CEOs and are contributing to the household income in whatever manner they can, are we still not allowed to decide on our own? do we still need permission from these 'so-called' protectors of our culture to do what we wish to do??
great idea. We as indians, each one of us, irrespective of our religion, gender and caste have a right to have our own versions of indian culture and as long as these versions don't involve hitting or abusing someone else in the name of religion, it is all just great.
ReplyDeleteWe all need to respect our personal space and the personal space of others.
Meanwhile, all the people fighting over religions and aruging as to which religious priests or mullahs or fathers are more corrupt,"Stop wasting your time".This is not a religious debate.This a question of being aware of our combined cultures, which unifies and stands tall as the Indian culture.
We are all humans who deserve to have freedom of choice.That is what we are talking about here.
And please don't start bringing in sentences like,"Born to one father " into a healthy argument.I have no idea why sex and the sexual habits of the mothers of the commenters are being brought into the argument.That is absolutely uncalled for and please stick to yourself while discussing issues.There is absolutely no need to bring in dialogues like "Agar maa ka doodth piya hai to....yada yada " " If you are born to one father....yada yada " and such.. Coz I really don't think that maa ka dooth has got anything to do an adult person's opinion or view, same holds for the numbers of fathers.Please.Stick to a healthy productive discussion.
The pink chaddi campaign is a fight for freedom.it is not about wanting to drink and run around naked. It is about making sure that women and men get to go whereever they please without some goondas coming over and hitting them. NO one is talking about alchoholism as a consitutional right at all.
ReplyDeletewho exactly gives the right to any person to hit any other person ? That is what we are talkign about. Assault is a crime. It is a punishable crime. That is what we are talking about.
You cannot go and dictate to some other person how to dress . They are free to dress however they please. That is what we are talking about here.
This is fight for freedom.
who gets to solely define Indian culture? I don't think abuse and molestation of women has a place in any culture.
That is what we are talking about here.
if you don't like something, stage a peaceful protest.That is the maximum you can do .You cannot just go ahead and hit women coz they are independant and earning their own money and dressing the way they please. A lot of people angry at a lot of things.That doesn't mean that you can go and hit people.
Bugsy ,
ReplyDeleteI am not saying that campaign against alcohol is to be handled by the goons of SRS. What I am saying is that the call for "Pub Bharo" is as against the directives of the constitution as the beating of the women is.
I brought this out because of your comment where you tried to equate drinking and walking on the road on the basis of the constitutional directives.
I have said it earlier and let me repeat it again - I am all for the equality of women and men. So I am proud of what the preamble says and what it stands for.

ReplyDeleteTHOSE PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT WHY OTHERS ARE BAD AND WHY WE ARE GOOD ,PLEASE STOP THIS, BOOSING OR NOT BOOSING IS ONES PERSONAL MATTER, IF THEY COME TO THE STREET AND MAKING NUISCIENCE ITS A SOCIAL MATTER,
ReplyDeleteANY WAYS ITS BETTER THAN MAKING A RELIGIOUS RIOT AND RAPING WOMEN AND KILLING CHILDREN,
GET LOST ALL THOSE RELIGIOUS FANATICS, EITHER YOU ARE HINDU, MUSLIM OR CHRISTIAN, GO AND GET LOST
Sena of lord shree Ram:---- Now-a-days slap women????
ReplyDeleteShame...
Has a terrorism/defamation law suit filed against Ram Sene and its chief? What happened to public interest litigations?? Why has it not been filed in this case??? Has our judiciary been corrupted too as our politicians!!??
ReplyDeleteThe matter in this campaign and messages from all across India are sufficient proof that Indian sentiments of democracy and culture are hurt by acts, abuse and intimidation of Ram Sene and its chief!!!
Please what are the options of filing public interest litigation against such terrorist factions in India!! Please post
@Bugsy sister,
ReplyDeleteread your points here. Felt really good.
You are very well informed and your language is very touching.
I totally agree to "gender equality" point mentioned.
But dont you think, this case was given undeserving amount of publicity, where as there are many other happenings within India
which are not addressed at all?
When you start sending chaddis to all others,
who have oppressed woman(eg: Catholic church,nuns :ref "Amen" by Sister jesmy,Since you always send chaddies to the head and not the hands which do the crime,guess you will have to send them to bishop which is really bad, since it is really disrespectfull; )
Please read the below link and send him some chaddies too : http://noburka.blogspot.com/2006/11/indias-leading-muslim-cleric-describes.html
And when you fall short of chaddies, i will with all my heart donate some too.
Long live secularism, May everyone be equal in India.
Not just woman be equal to men, but also
let all religions be treated equally.
@Sakshi
ReplyDeleteWill answer this part of your "speech" :
"Please what are the options of filing public interest litigation against such terrorist factions in India!! Please post"
There are numerous acts of terrorism and antinational activities and many such organizations which are not banned and which oppress woman too :-)
NDF , PDP , Al Umma
Dare to send chaddies? post your address too when you send chaddies to them. they will send you reply ; not "sarees" like SreeRam sena,
a bag full of bombs and maybe a long and mean sword as a warning,to you & ur loved ones.
Dont compare SreeRam Sena which is an organization without ground even in mangalore to Taliban or Al Quaida.
When you try to grind saffron to dust in turn
you are awakening a DEMON which could be worser.
Be safe.
Bugsy sister,
ReplyDeletewhy have you denied everyone access to your profile ?
Truly miss discussions with you.
I am utterly ashamed of being part of a Nation that is ridiculous and hypocritical to the core. We are racist, we are fascist, we are rude, we are unethical, we discriminate, we are nonsecular, we are divided and the worst part we are the nation with the biggest brains. We do not need Pakistan, we are ourselves competent enough to doom ourselves with double standards.
ReplyDeleteI had gone to a pub recently. I was shocked at what my eyes encountered. I saw a woman consuming alcohol. I gathered the wits to approach her and ask her the big question on her reason for drinking. She took a deep breath and replied.
ReplyDelete"I always had to do what my father wanted me to, I always abide by what my brother expects from me. I got eveteased a few times, I have my monthly issues, men chase me when I drive from work, I lost that promotion to the chauvinistic colleague, I do not get to wear whatever I want to, I have to do all the cooking, I have to carry the baby for whole nine months, I have to bear the pain in labor, I cannot walk out of my marriage, the "Indian Culture" does not let me live the way I want to, I am not safe on the roads, I am vulnerable in public transport and I am way too tired taking care of the family and the house...... i bloody well need a drink right now.....
I say they deserve that drink more than we men do. I say, "Ma'am, here's another one, on me, on men!

I've been meaning to write in. I love everything about Pink Chaddis! I feel so reassured and relieved that there are enough of us to make a noise about our rights to be whatever it is that we want to be. What a wonderfully delicious idea all of this is. Excellent work ladies.
ReplyDeleteI wud like to raise the issue of artists painting women nude in the name of freedom of expression. Most noted of them is Mr.M.F Husain.Why does he paints only women in nude note ram , krishna , Prophet or Jesus? Starting from old times women are depicted in sexually provocative poses ? Let us send pink chiddi to all the artists who paint women nude just to satisfy their perverted and sick mind. Put all such sick artist who paint women in nude in pink chaddi!So come on ye the war lords of pink chaddi let us make most of this gandhian bomb, the pink chaddi, a wepon to expose all the hypocrite in our society. Start with sending pink chaddi to M.F.Hussain.
ReplyDeleteI just found a "join our facebook group" link on the right side above the Indian cultures poster which takes you to a site by the hacker called "the only good bong is a dead one" and it has filth and lies about Pink Chaddi and Nisha. What is worse is that it has all the members who signed up the pink chaddi there -he/she has hacked into Nisha's password and changed the text. I have removed my name and reported the site-we need to get more people to do the same.

Im really late, I know...but i think its that time of the yr again... went through most of the comments here. and i m feeling sad. This is not about Nisha susan against hinduism. Im sure if she was born Nisha Sreenivasan, she would have still started the campaign. Im a hindu, proud to be one. I vote for the BJP. Im from bangalore and been to a pub only once in my 26 years of my life. But I would like to stand up and raise my voice if im told by somebody how to live. this is not about booze or culture or religion. This is about our choices, our safety. I would not like to be slapped or kicked because I like my wine. Im not a whore because I drink. Im still my papa's dutiful girl. Nobody has the right to touch me n tell me what I am supposed to and what I am not supposed to do. U go girl!!! :) i wonder whats comin up this year end....
